For the last 10,000 miles, my wife has averaged 47.5 mpg in her Yaris hatchback automatic - and the last time I had it on the open road for a lengthy trip, I averaged 42 mpg. A 70 mpg Insight this Yaris is not, but I see that Toyota just put a 58 mpg diesel in one of their euro city cars. Too bad this will probably never come to America.

why is it that toyota motor corp. has been selling diesel pickups ,some with a turbo; or the surf-runner turbo'd 6 with a manual shift that can get 30 mpg? when I tried to obtain one I could not even special something . I could not even obtain a 4-runner with manual transmission? I opted for my brand new 2004 4-runner. based on previous performances of a 1993 4-runner and a 1994 truck. both 4 wheel drive. they were both nearly flawless in form and function. my 38,000 doller 4-runner with almost all of the whistles and bells has had nothing but problems. it makes me wonder if I will ever buy another one of your products. I do not expect this to be posted , however I would like a response. I cannot get anyone to make my tire pressure warning system function, my rear hatch locking mechanism broke last year and had to be replaced and now my sun-roof does not function. I have 9 months before it is paid off , and I am pretty unsatisfied.
